I have been a huge fan of the Nik Collection plugins for Photoshop (not the Lightroom ones) for many years, and now they are going to be FREE going forward. As Lightroom and Capture One functionality has increased I have been relying less and less on the Nik Collection tools, but they still have a use in my overall tool kit.

Some great news while I was away in Iceland. Nik Software’s budle is now only $149, which used to be $499. Now we get everything included with the $149 price, whether you want the plugins for Lightroom, Aperture or Photoshop. This is awesome news. I use Nik Software’s plugins on most of my images, and I usually use Viveza 2, Color Efex Pro 4 and Silver Efex Pro 2 as my main ones. If you have purchased only 1 of the plugins in the past, you are now eligible to upgrade to all of the entire suite for free. Very cool.
A few days ago I was in the San Francisco bay area for some business, and I found myself down at Google headquarters with the Nik Software team. We had an hour-long Google Hangout (we called it a Fireside Chat) and spoke openly about trends in the photo industry. We spoke about HDR, film, mirrorless cameras, how portrait and wedding photographers set trends that we see in wildlife photography and also covered wet plates. It was great to see my friends Laurie Rubin, Dan Hughes and Scott Sheppard in person. Thanks for the great chat!
Laurie Rubin and I recently co-ran a webinar, featuring Nik Software products. Laurie and I processed some images from our safari together in Kenya last fall, and we had a few laughs during the 1-hour presentation. Take a peek and hopefully a few nuggets of information will be of use to you.
Remember that you can earn a 15% discount on all Nik Software products by using ABIGGS as your code when checking out.
Please join me, along with Laurie Rubin, for a 1-hour webinar on February 16 at 10am PST (1pm EST). Laurie and I were on safari together a few months back in Kenya, and we are going to go through some of our images and will process some of them using Nik Software products. Here is a description of the event:
Join award winning photographers, Andy Biggs (Workshop Educator and Leader) and Laurie Rubin (Nik Education Project Manager) as they revisit their recent trip to Kenya, Africa. Take an adventure into the world of photographing the ‘Super Bowl’ of the animal kingdom. They will show you their tips and techniques from photographing wildlife to post-processing in the digital darkroom using Nik Software products and the equipment that they used. This will be an entertaining and educational webinar that will both motivate and inspire anyone that enjoys wildlife photography. (www.andybiggs.com and www.imagesbylaurie.com)
