Moab: Off the Beaten Path Workshop

Due to the popularity of my December 4-8 Arches and Canyonlands workshop, I have decided to offer another workshop for the adventurous photographers out there. This workshop will be 100% out in the field, and is designed to photograph some of the more out of the way locations in the heart of rock rock country.

This workshop will be based in Moab, Utah, and will be held from November 30 until December 3rd. The goal is to take to the trails for some remote petroglpyhs, cultural sites and beautiful vistas. Although we are not gunning for death marches, anticipate 2 to 6 hours round trip hikes on varying terrain. The group will be smaller for this workshop, so please let me know if you are interested if you have any measurable interest.

Coming to Seattle

I am heading out for Seattle in a few weeks, and I will be at Glazers Camera to do a few lectures on my African adventures and digital inkjet printing. Steve McCurry

A few months ago I spent a weekend shooting with Steve McCurry in New York. If you are unsure who Steve is, do a google search on 'Afghan Girl National Geographic' and you will quickly understand. Here is a photograph of Steve recreating the 'Mr. Roboto' dance from an early 1980's Styx music video.

Custom profiling service

I am now offering a custom profiling service for RGB inkjet printers. I have spent much time creating custom profiles for myself and a handful of customers, and am now offering this service to the public. I use a Gretag Macbeth iO automated table, which allows me to read as many color patches as possible without errors. Inside of this device is an Eye-One spectophotometer UV, which compensates for papers with optical brighteners.

Why might you need a custom profile? Some printer models have significant variances in output right from the factory. The result is that OEM profiles that are provided may not allow for the best output possible. Additionally, some profiles might not be available for certain third party papers for your specific printer model. Custom profiles are beneficial, if not necessary, for these situations.

So what is the process? The process is quite simple:

1) Send me an email at info@andybiggs.com, indicating that you wish to have one or more custom profiles created.

2) I will email over the targets. These targets should be printed on 8.5x11 (or A4) sheets of paper. These targets have 1728 patches.

3) Print these 2 target pages from Photoshop.

4) Send these 2 targets to me, and include a $50 check per profile being created. I also accept PayPal.

5) I will email you the resulting profile(s) to your email address.

6) Voila

Naturescapes.net has one of my images on their splash page for the month of August. This image was taken back in February 2005, while flying in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti plains. I included the balloon in this photo to give a sense of space and scale. The dust in this photograph was actually caused by the chase vehicles, as they needed to be in place for the landing of the balloons.
