Recent safari traveler Paul Robishaw wrote to me with the following:

"Wow!  Just WOW!!

I had hoped that the 2009 Botswana would be a good one and a great learning opportunity.  It was all of that and so much more!

Andy, I have been fortunate in my life to have experienced many fantastic adventures in remote, exotic, and ecologically-pristine locales.  The Botswana safari is right up there at the top of that list!  It was truly amazing!  We spent 12 days in the bush, and each of them seemed better than the one before.  The wildlife sightings, the scenery, the camaraderie . . . I could go on and on.  The last day came way too soon for me.

I’d like to compliment all who helped make the Botswana photo safari such a fantastic one!  Kudos to you, Grant Atkinson (our naturalist guide/driver/geologist/historian/local expert/ good-humor man), the folks at Wilderness Safaris, James and Nicky at Eyes on Africa, as well as the entire staffs of the Kwetsani, Savuti, Chitabe and Mombo camps.  The courtesies, personal care, and professionalism extended by all were truly extraordinary.  The food and accommodations excellent, as well.  I slept very well and put on more than a few pounds.

As you know, I’ve already signed on to another African adventure with you.  This time I’m bringing my wife so that she can experience and enjoy what I did.  Don’t know how are at encores, but I trust you.

One of your African trips should be on everyone’s Bucket List."

I am not an amateur photographer. My images are in the permanent collections of more than half a dozen major museums, as well as in numerous private collections and galleries. I am a contributing writer to PHOTO Techniques magazine as well as to The Luminous Landscape web site. I am a consultant, an advisor and beta tester to several large manufacturers.

I have traveled all around the world, and I had been to Africa a few times before I decided to join a workshop to Botswana organized by you.

Why did I decide to do this? The reason is simple, I know enough about adventure travel to realize that it is always good to be with someone that knows the territory and will make all the proper arrangements. Making the proper arrangements, and making sure that everything is done correctly is a difficult task, not to be underestimated, particularly in underdeveloped countries far from civilization.

Josh Li has traveled with me to Africa, as well as to Alaska. Josh had this to say recently:

Just wanted to thank you for the great experiences I had on our two safaris together. They were truly unique, world-class, and educational.

To most people, going to remote adventurous places like Africa and Alaska are once-in-a-lifetime, potentially stressful, events. You made everybody at ease, and basically did all the necessary work for us from start to finish. The detailed itinerary, packing list, recommended photographic equipment are tremendously helpful.

Most importantly, you helped every single member of the group with their photography. From the on-the-field tips to the post-processing work help you gave nightly at the tents / lodges, your passion for photography is contagious and helps everybody improve. Perhaps most memorable event among many was the confrontation between the white rhinos and pride of lions at the watering hole! You and your team of knowledgeable guides ensured that we were in the right places at the right times to observe the scenery and wildlife and take some wonderful photographs. You are a warm and gracious host who is genuinely interested in his guests and you consistently went above and beyond expectations to make sure that everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves.
