About Andy

I am an avid adventurer, conservationist, teacher, and outdoor photographer whose photography celebrates the African landscape and its rich wildlife, people, and culture. My photographic safaris allow my travelers to not only enhance their understanding of photography, lighting, and wildlife, but to develop a life-long admiration for Africa ‘s beauty and culture.

Banana Republic recently used my photographs as the cornerstone of their Urban Safari campaign, and my images were seen in all 750 stores around the globe, as well as in their billboards, catalogs and annual report. I was also the winner of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the ‘Wild Places’ category in 2008 and a highly commended in the ‘Creative Visions of Nature’ category in 2007.

I launched Gura Gear in 2008, in an attempt to deliver lightweight camera bags to the market. I was looking for a lightweight camera bag to hold all of my photographic gear, and there was nothing desirable on the market that suited my needs. After spending 2 years with many prototypes, the Gura Gear Kiboko bag was born. More products are now available on the Gura Gear web site.

Hi Andy - I ordered a 800E as well last night from B&H. Obviously it is not a necessity, but I figured I might as well get in the queue now and can cancel later. Really too bad it won't ship before our family trip to Japan in early April.

Nice looking specs. Really a nice alternative to the Nikon D4 if you don't need the high fps or the super high iso capabilities and want 2x the megapixel. Waiting for Canon to ship the 1DX and announce their competitor to this camera. I would imagine that Canon would need to make an announcement soon to keep some of their customers from moving to the Nikon sytem. $3K-$3.3K for this camera seems to be a very good deal.

Hi Andy,

Did you order a D4 as well? We would love to hear your opinions and comparisons.

Thanks

Andy, I understand that the D800 e looks sweet for landscapes. It may take more in post. Are you concerned about moire and color if you use it for video? Not sure if no AA filter is for me or not due to video. I would love to hear what you or others think. Thanks.

Bill, I just won't know until other people have done testing that I can benefit from. :-)
