CHICAGO (November 4, 2008)—Inspired by his extensive travel and career in wildlife photography, outdoor photographer Andy Biggs has launched Gura Gear; an innovative line of camera bags designed to help photographers get the perfect shot. The Kiboko bag is the first design from the Gura Gear line. Weighing in at only 4 pounds, the Kiboko is the lightest bag in its class. Designed with the needs of the photographer in mind, the bag allows all photo gear to be safely stored and comfortably carried but also quickly accessed. The Kiboko bag is deep enough to accommodate a pro level SLR camera body, as well as medium format cameras. The bag will also hold up to a 500mm and 600mm lens simultaneously. The Kiboko bag is made from high-tech Dimension Polyant VX-21, a unique and durable water-shedding material made from the same process that is used on some of the fastest lightweight sailboats in the world. The outer materials are abrasion and tear resistant and the interior is well padded, ensuring that the bag and your equipment will hold up regardless of the terrain you’re photographing.
The Kiboko bag can be carried either as a backpack with a retractable, expertly engineered harness system or as a shoulder bag using ergonomically placed handles. The Kiboko also features a convenient butterfly flap access system, allowing the photographer to easily get to multiple bodies, lenses and all their photo accessories. The bag’s interior is also fully customizable to suit the photographers’ individual needs. The Kiboko’s harness system fully retracts for loading into airplanes and can be used as a carry on for most flights. Every detail of the Kiboko bag has been specifically designed, down to the zippers that can be handled even while wearing winter gloves.

This is a really great product that is tailor-made for the traveling photographer. I am lucky enough to be an early purchaser of the final Kiboko -- and it simply blows the competition (if you can even call it that) away. The materials used are top-of-the-line, the build is of absolute highest quality, and most importantly the design (the pocket placements, the little details like the zippers that are made to be easily accessible with gloves, and the fit of the bag on your shoulders with a 500 mm lens + 2 lenses + 2 bodies) fills a void in the market today of a high quality, light weight, airplane-ready camera bag.

I will be going on my first photo safari in 2009 and will definitly be purchasing the Kiboko Gura Gear bag for my gear as it answers all the questions I had in terms of how I was going to carry and transport my photo gear on international travel in a safe and secure manner without the worry of separating precious gear in unlocked checked baggage. I am going on one of Andy's safaris in 2009. Is it overseas airline compliant? Especially for KLM, since I am flying through Amsterdam?
Pat, absolutely the Kiboko is compliant for European airlines. I have used the bag on no fewer than 8 international flights through Europe, and it works like a charm.

I used a prototype of Andy's bag last March for safari to Tanzania. We flew KLM and it was perfect. On a comparative note, my normal bag is a Think Tank Acceleration and I have several differnet Lowe Pros as well. This Kiboko of Andy's is the best by far. I wish it had been available a year earlier but that's true about nearly everything photographic. My favorite feature is being able to open only part of the bag at a time and to remove only the camera I need without exposing the bags entire contents to dust. This feature also cuts down on the amount of time it takes to switch gear. Last, the backpack feature is not an afterthought (as it is in the Think Tank bags) but actually very well designed. Andy, I ordered my Kibuku bag yesterday. I was impressed with your prototype while in Africa in January, and my current bag will no longer accommodate my equipment for air travel.
Hope you are well. I am impresed with your current lineup of photo safaris. I would already be signing up again, but for the current condition of my retirement investments. As soon as I can justify it, I'll be anxious to plan another trip. The January trip to Tanzania far exceeded my expectations.
