I am an avid adventurer, conservationist, teacher, and outdoor photographer whose photography celebrates the African landscape and its rich wildlife, people, and culture. My photographic safaris allow my travelers to not only enhance their understanding of photography, lighting, and wildlife, but to develop a life-long admiration for Africa ‘s beauty and culture.

Banana Republic recently used my photographs as the cornerstone of their Urban Safari campaign, and my images were seen in all 750 stores around the globe, as well as in their billboards, catalogs and annual report. I was also the winner of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the ‘Wild Places’ category in 2008 and a highly commended in the ‘Creative Visions of Nature’ category in 2007.

I launched Gura Gear in 2008, in an attempt to deliver lightweight camera bags to the market. I was looking for a lightweight camera bag to hold all of my photographic gear, and there was nothing desirable on the market that suited my needs. After spending 2 years with many prototypes, the Gura Gear Kiboko bag was born. More products are now available on the Gura Gear web site.

Back from Alaska

Well, I am back from a 7 hour flight from Anchorage, Alaska. Red eye flights are always challenging when it comes to sleep. We had a wonderful time photographing coastal brown bears in Lake Clark National Park, where we saw around 25 to 40 bears every day. The weather was challenging for the first few days with overcast/rainy skies, and then cleared up wonderfully near the end of our stay.

I have nothing but wonderful things to report from Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, as they run a great operation out there. We were fed extremely well, too. I am trying to process some of my best images right now, but the long journey might have me working on the images later on this weekend.

The trip delivered beyond expectations on all three fronts.

We saw more bears, up close and personal, than I had expected we would. Watching cubs was a blast. Despite the weather conditions, we all had a lot of fun.

The "show and tell" sessions that Andy hosted were extremely helpful, and of course his tutorial on panning was instrumental in my own photography (and you will see why once I have my images from the trip on my site).

Accomodations were not as luxurious as his safaris, but it was definitely more than comfortable. I would recommend, however, that one attempt to avoid snoring roommates (just kidding, Jeff).

Thanks for the good time, everybody.

I am already looking forward to my next "Andy Biggs Experience."
